Water Source Heat Pump Repair in New York City
Water-source heat pumps are standard equipment in many New York condos, co-ops and commercial buildings — and they need technicians who know loop systems. We diagnose and repair console, vertical and horizontal water-source units: no heating or cooling, compressor and reversing-valve faults, low water flow and clogged coaxial coils, control and thermostat problems, leaks and unusual noise. HVAC diagnostics are $99 + tax. You get a fixed price before any work begins, and every repair is backed by our 90-day labor warranty.
Unlike an air-source heat pump, a water-source unit has no outdoor coil and no defrost cycle — it exchanges heat with the building’s water loop. That is why many “unit” problems on these systems actually start on the water side: flow, loop temperature, and valves.
Common Water-Source Heat Pump Problems
No Heating or Cooling
A water-source unit that runs but delivers no heating or cooling may have a reversing-valve fault, a control-board or thermostat problem, low refrigerant charge, or a water-side problem: flow too low to carry heat, or entering water temperature outside the unit’s operating range. We check loop-side temperatures and flow at the unit together with refrigerant pressures and controls, so a building-loop problem is not mistaken for a failed unit — and a failed unit is not blamed on the building.
The unit does not turn on; it runs but barely cools or heats — including cases where the room temperature drifts up while the system is running and smart thermostats send alerts; water-flow or lockout faults; loud or unusual noise; water leaks at the unit; frequent cycling. In New York condos and co-ops these units connect to the building’s water loop, so a fault can be in the unit itself, its controls, or the water flow through it — we establish which before recommending a repair.
High-Pressure and Low-Pressure Trips
Repeated pressure trips and lockouts are symptoms, not diagnoses. On a water-source unit, high-pressure trips often trace to low water flow, a fouled coaxial heat exchanger, a water valve that is not opening, or an incorrect refrigerant charge; low-pressure trips can come from low charge, restricted airflow, or water temperatures outside the operating range. We confirm with gauges and entering and leaving water temperatures before naming a cause — clearing a lockout without fixing the cause only schedules the next trip.
Condensate Drain Problems
In cooling mode the unit produces condensate that has to drain away. A clogged drain line or a failed condensate pump can shut the unit down on its safety switch — or leak into the ceiling or closet below. We clear the drain, test the pump and safety switch, and check for the buildup that caused the blockage.
When the Problem Is on the Building Side
Some faults belong to the building, not the unit: a loop pump down, a tower or boiler problem, or loop temperatures out of range will take every unit on the same riser offline together. If our tests show your unit is healthy and the loop is at fault, we document the readings — entering and leaving water temperatures and flow — so your building staff or loop contractor can act on them, and we coordinate access with building management.
How WSHP Diagnostics Work
We check entering and leaving water temperatures and flow, refrigerant pressures, compressor and fan operation, control board and thermostat communication, and electrical readings, and we review any error or alert history the thermostat provides. HVAC diagnostics are $99 + tax, credited in full toward your approved repair. You receive an estimate with labor and parts shown separately before any repair begins.
Water-Source Heat Pump Repairs We Perform
Compressor and refrigerant-circuit repairs; control board and sensor replacement; fan and blower repairs; reversing-valve and water-side component repairs; thermostat and control integration. We service ClimateMaster units and other major manufacturers’ water-source heat pumps in residential and commercial buildings.
Water-Source Heat Pump Repair FAQ
How much does the repair cost?
Diagnostics are $99 + tax, credited in full toward your approved repair. The repair is quoted after diagnostics, with labor and parts shown separately. Labor carries a 90-day warranty; parts are covered by the manufacturer or supplier as specified on your receipt.
The building loop is fine, but my unit still does not cool. Can you help?
Yes — when building maintenance confirms the loop is normal, the fault is usually inside the unit: refrigerant charge, compressor, controls or airflow. Our diagnostics separate unit faults from building-loop faults.
Do you work with condo and co-op buildings?
Yes. We service water-source heat pumps in condos, co-ops and commercial buildings across Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, Staten Island and Nassau County, and coordinate access with building management.
