The thermostat is the control for the whole heating and cooling system — and when it fails, the furnace, boiler or AC takes the blame. Fuse HVAC & Appliance Repair New York installs, replaces and repairs thermostats across Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, Staten Island and Nassau County: conventional thermostats and smart models from Google Nest, ecobee and Honeywell. If the system is not responding, we test the thermostat and the wiring first — a $99 + tax diagnostic, credited in full when you approve the repair — before anyone quotes you a new furnace.
Thermostat Problems We Repair
No Heat or No Cooling — System Does Not Respond
The most common call. Causes range from a dead thermostat and failed wiring to a blown low-voltage fuse or a fault in the equipment itself. We test the call signals (R, W, Y, G) at the thermostat and at the equipment to find which side has actually failed.
Blank or Dead Screen
No display usually means no 24V power: a tripped breaker, a blown 3–5A board fuse, a failed transformer, or a condensate safety switch holding the power off. We trace the power, not just the thermostat.
Temperature Reading Is Wrong
A thermostat that reads 72 while the room is 64 (or the opposite) causes short runs and constant discomfort: sensor drift, placement in direct sun or over a heat source, or a failing unit. We verify against a reference thermometer.
Short Cycling
The system starts and stops every few minutes. Thermostat causes include wrong cycle-rate settings, a thermostat mounted where it overheats, or anticipation settings mismatched to the equipment — alongside equipment-side causes we check in the same visit.
Wi-Fi and App Problems (Smart Thermostats)
Dropped connections, failed pairing, and thermostats that lose power and reboot (a classic missing-C-wire symptom: the unit “steals” power and the furnace board misbehaves). We fix the power and network side properly — including a C-wire or an approved adapter — instead of leaving a battery workaround.
Zoning and Multi-Thermostat Homes
Homes with several thermostats and zone dampers: one zone not calling, dampers not opening, or a zone panel fault. We test each zone’s call and damper operation.
Smart Thermostat Installation
We install Google Nest (Learning Thermostat and Thermostat), ecobee, Honeywell Home (T9/T10 and others) and Sensi thermostats. Every installation starts with a compatibility check: system type (furnace, boiler, heat pump, PTAC, multi-stage, dual-fuel), existing wiring, and whether a C-wire is present. If a C-wire is missing, we tell you the options honestly — run a new wire where practical, or an approved power adapter — before any work begins. Installation includes mounting, wiring, configuration for your equipment type, Wi-Fi setup and app pairing on your phone, and a walkthrough of the schedule and settings before we leave.
Thermostat Replacement and Upgrades
Replacing a failed or outdated thermostat — like-for-like or an upgrade to a smart model — is quoted as one fixed price confirmed before work, including the compatibility check. If your existing thermostat is fine and the fault is in the equipment, we will say so during the diagnostic instead of selling you a thermostat you do not need.
How Thermostat Diagnostics Work
We check the thermostat’s power (24V at R and C), test every call signal, inspect the wiring at both ends, verify settings and configuration against the equipment type, and confirm whether the fault is in the thermostat, the wiring, or the heating/cooling equipment itself. The diagnostic is $99 + tax, credited in full toward your approved repair. The repair or installation price is fixed and approved by you before work starts.

Thermostat FAQ
How much does thermostat repair cost?
The diagnostic visit is $99 + tax, credited in full if you approve the repair or replacement. After testing, you receive one fixed price before any work begins. If the thermostat itself has failed, replacement — including a smart model — is quoted in that same fixed price.
Will a Nest or ecobee work with my system?
Most furnaces, boilers and heat pumps are compatible, but not all: some systems need a C-wire, and a few (millivolt systems, proprietary communicating systems, some high-voltage setups) need a different solution. The compatibility check is part of the visit — we confirm before installing, not after.
What is a C-wire, and why does it matter?
The C-wire (common wire) gives a smart thermostat constant 24V power. Without it, many smart thermostats charge by “stealing” power through the equipment circuit, which can cause rebooting, Wi-Fi drops and strange equipment behavior. Where a C-wire is missing, we offer the honest options: run a wire, or fit an approved adapter.
My system stopped working right after I installed a thermostat myself. Can you fix it?
Yes — this is a common visit. A miswired thermostat can blow the low-voltage fuse or misconfigure the equipment type (for example, a heat pump set up as a conventional system). We re-check the wiring and configuration, replace the fuse if needed, and verify heating and cooling operation.
Which brands do you install and service?
Google Nest, ecobee, Honeywell Home, Sensi and other major brands, as well as conventional non-programmable thermostats. Parts are covered by the applicable manufacturer or supplier warranty shown on your receipt.
Is there a warranty?
Yes — a 90-day labor warranty on every repair and installation. The thermostat itself is covered by its manufacturer warranty, as specified on your receipt.
How fast can you come out?
We schedule visits Monday through Friday, 10 AM to 6 PM. Call (917) 997-4525 or request service online, and we will offer the earliest available appointment and confirm your arrival window.
